Trevor is a typical, energetic 10-year-old boy. He and his Mom came to the Mission several months ago and are hoping to move into their own apartment by the end of the year. Recently, he shared with me his fears about going back to school. He was afraid that other kids would find out he is living in a homeless shelter.

This is a fear shared by many of the children staying with us.
In most cases, they are already struggling with difficult family situations. Now they must cope with the threat of negative peer pressure. Going back to school becomes just another point of stress in their lives. How hard it must be to deal with these self-esteem issues at such a young age.

As I watched our kids get on the yellow school bus today, I wondered what would become of them. How will being homeless affect their learning ability? What will other kids say to them? Will they give up before even getting started in life? What if they were my kids or yours?

Just know that all of us at the Mission are deeply committed to helping children like Trevor make it through such difficult times. We want their time at the Mission to be a positive experience. We assure them this crisis is not their fault. We tell them that many people in our community do care about their plight. Most importantly, we let them know they have great worth.

Here is my request. Would you to pray for all the children staying at the Mission? I believe that God deeply loves these kids and wants you and I to reach out and help them through all of this. Your prayers really will make a difference in their lives.

I also need your financial support. This summer was very hard on the Mission and we are experiencing significant losses. We are the only large homeless shelter in the city and demand for our services continues to grow. Your gift is really needed as we try to care for the homeless in our city.

Thanks so much for your kindness and partnership with us. Together we can make a difference in the lives of many hurting people!!

Pastor Tom
