One Day Without Shoes 2013

Cornhusker Bank is honored to be partnering with the People’s City Mission to help raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. One Day Without Shoes is an annual event created by TOMS Shoes. Cornhusker Bank puts a local focus on the event by recognizing the need for shoes right here in our own community.
Please consider supporting this community effort by dropping off new or used shoe donations (child or adult sizes) at any Cornhusker Bank location from April 5 through April 19. We will also be happy to take your monetary donations for the People’s City Mission during this time.
Visit OneDayWithoutShoes.com or CornhuskerBank.com to learn more about this important event.

Vote for PCM at Hy-Vee's Wine and Food Experience

Come enjoy an evening filled with food, fun, and great company at Hy-Vee's annual Wine and Food Experience! Attendees will experience a variety of tastes throughout the evening, and each ticketholder will have the opportunity to vote for his or her favorite community charity to win $2,000. Last year, the votes put the People's City Mission on top, and we're hoping you'll consider attending once again and placing your vote in 2013.
This year's Hy-Vee Wine and Food Experience will be held February 1, at 8:00 p.m. at the Cornhusker Hotel (333 S. 13th Street). General admission tickets are $35, and a VIP upgrade is available for an additional $15. Tickets can be purchased at any Lincoln Hy-Vee customer service or wine and spirits store.

Mission holds homeless memorial service

Staff, guests and members of the community gathered together on Thursday, December 20th to pay their respects to the homeless men and women who died in 2012. The list included individuals who died while living on the street or in an emergency shelter, as well as those who died while living in transitional or permanent housing who were formerly homeless. This year, 11 individuals were specially honored at the service.
The event underscores the urgent crisis faced by thousands of men, women, and children who experience an episode of homelessness in Lancaster County each year, including more than 2,000 who have stayed at the People’s City Mission. The event was held in conjunction with National Homeless Memorial Day.
