In her own words: A letter from a volunteer

Dear Mr. Hand,

My name is Jackie, and I go to Lincoln East High School. I volunteered at the People's City Mission in the kitchen serving food on March 15th, 2012.

I was glad the opportunity arose over my spring break that I could serve in the People's City Mission kitchen. I was able to help put the food out, serve it, and clean up afterwards. I really thought that it was an eye-opening experience to the amount of need in our own community. The teamwork it took to even make just a lunch happen amazed me.

I'm very glad I got to participate in this experience. I needed to get out of my comfort zone and see some of the need within the community. The People's City Mission does so much for those struggling here in Lincoln and I'm glad I was able to help out, even though it wasn't much. The People's City Mission is very important to the community in the fact that without it, people wouldn't have a warm meal, place to stay, or hope of a second chance.

Serving others is a gift and I want to thank you for letting me experience it. You are an inspiring man and I want to thank you for all you do for the People's City Mission. I wish you the best of luck in the future!

Sincerely,

Jackie
