Stories From The Mission
Meet Christian
Christian Thompson started working at the Mission a little more than a year ago, in the Men’s Shelter. He came here after many years of working in construction, an industry that he says was rough on him. “Everyone was partying in one way or another,” he said. “I got out of it. It was healthier for me.”
Now, he’s beginning his tenure as the Mission’s Facilities Manager. In this new role, Christian is helping keep the Mission’s physical structures in good shape so the staff inside can focus on helping guests move forward with their lives. Sometimes getting the needed repairs requires Christian to balance needs and resources, but he says leaning on God helps him find the right answers.
Of course, being a staff member at the Mission also comes with a basic responsibility to the guests. Christian says he wants to show guests that, if he can make the right decisions to get his life back on track, they can too. “I just want to help people, to let them know there’s hope and someone who cares,” he said. “Really, I love what I do.”

Starry Nights tree designers needed
Do you love decorating for Christmas? Volunteer as a Starry Nights tree designer!
The Starry Nights Christmas Tree Festival and Gala is a wonderful family event that also serves to support the People's City Mission and the less fortunate in our community. Part of the festival is an ongoing display of beautiful Christmas trees, designed and assembled by volunteer designers. These volunteers work alone or in pairs to create these works of art, which will be auctioned off at the gala that concludes the event.
We are currently seeking designers for this year's festival. If you're a florist, interior decorator, or anyone interested in helping make this event an incredible success for the second year in a row, please contact Lisa McClung at
