Curtis Center Dedication
What a grand and glorious day it was Friday, April 25th as Mildred Curtis officially cut the ribbon at the dedication of the new 60-bed supportive, transitional housing unit for men named the Carl and Mildred Curtis Center. Standing behind Mrs. Curtis and speaking at this occasion are Nebraska First Lady, Sally Ganem, Congressman Jeff Fortenberry and Mayor Chris Beutler.
The late Senator Carl Curtis and his wife, Mildred, have been instrumental in the growth of People's City Mission for a number of years. Many current donors were introduced to the Mission by Carl and Mildred. Mildred Curtis was one of the founding Directors of the People's City Mission Foundation. A business woman in her own right, Mildred was particularly interested in construction projects at the Mission. We we were greatly blessed by her knowledge and input.
Carl T. Curtis represented the State of Nebraska for a total of 40 years in Federal Government. He was first elected a Congressman in 1938 where he served until 1954. He was elected to the Senate in 1954 and continued there until 1979 when he returned to Lincoln to practice law. In recognition of his years of service, other Nebraska buildings have been named for Carl Curtis: The Carl T. Curtis Midwest Regional Headquarters of the National Park Service in Omaha and The Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center on the Omaha American Indian Reservation in Macy, Nebraska.

Kinkade Raffle
The donors of this 25 x 34 inch lithograph The Village Lighthouse by Thomas Kinkade, have chosen to hold a drawing to raise funds to benefit the People's City Mission Club E.D.E.F.Y. after school program for children and youth. The drawing will be held on June 30, 2008. The winner of the drawing will receive this Kinkade lithograph, appraised at over $700.00 PLUS a gift certificate for $250.00 to Deck the Walls to cover the cost of framing.
You can enter this drawing by sending a donation of $25.00 to the Mission, with “Club EDEFY – Kinkade” Written on the notation line of your check.

The Village Lighthouse “portrays a village nestled into a rocky shore that I discovered on a seaside stroll in England. A radiant glow bathes the village, touching the magnificent flowering dogwood and lavish stands of foxgloves and impatiens with light, just as it illuminates the waves that dance over the ocean. Wisps of spray rise from the waves while plumes of smoke ascend from the chimneys. Land and sea, man and nature are in perfect harmony here.” —Thomas Kinkade
The lithograph donors hope that through this drawing and the funds raised that our Lord be glorified and praised through this donation and that People's City Mission be seen as a lighthouse, as in the lithograph, for the homeless and destitute in Lincoln.
